Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I was born and brought up in New Delhi, India. Being the youngest one in my family and the apple of my father's eye, I led a very protected life because of the huge age difference between me and my siblings; I was the fortunate pampered child. My father passed away when I was sixteen years old. My mother was devastated by my father's loss and that's when I learned how to be independent and I learnt how to not only look after me but also my mother.

Lisa Ray began her acting career with the Bollywood film Kasoor in 2001 opposite Aftab Shivdasani. Ray then went to Tollywood in 2002 and appeared in Takkari Donga with Mahesh Babu. She subsequently starred as the female lead of Canadian director Deepa Mehta's romantic Indo-Canadian romp, Bollywood/Hollywood in 2002. In 2005, she worked again with Mehta in the latter's most recent film, Water. The film tells the story of a widow, played by Ray, who lives in a Varanasi ashram. Ray starred opposite John Abraham. Although she learned her lines in Hindi for the shoot, her voice ultimately had to be dubbed over in post-production on account of her strong accent.

Ray has said that she desires to be a novelist with a base in Paris. She is also hosting "Beauty Mantra" a television show on the Indian channel Zee TV.

In Bollywood, said model-turned-actress Neha Dhupia, either sex sells or Shah Rukh Khan. Since Khan was not in her film, Dhupia has put oodles of sex.

Dhupia is promoting her film "Julie" where she plays a prostitute and whose sexy posters and promos, featuring the actress backless and semi-nude, have created waves.

"I believed in the script - it's a powerful tale of a college girl who becomes a prostitute," said Dhupia, clad in baby pink trousers, a silvery coat, a chunky necklace.

"It is all about emotions and I have given it my 100 percent," she tells.

"Julie is the journey of a girl from Goa who enters the concrete jungle of Mumbai," said "Julie" director Deepak Shivdasani, who accompanied Dhupia. "It is the love story of a prostitute."

The film is about Mihir Shandilya, a multi-millionaire bachelor (Priyanshu Chatterjee) who falls in love with Julie (Dhupia's character). He is shocked to discover Julie's profession but battles it out with his family and society to marry her.

"Julie" is Dhupia's second release after the action flick "Qayamat". The film continues Bollywood's new trend of skin flicks with films like "Murder", "Tum", "Girlfriend".

"Yes, we have marketed the film on sex," admitted Shivdasani. "But the film was planned much before the release of Murder. It tells a story."

Backless posters of Dhupia have been hugging theatre walls and CD covers and making headlines. The crew admits it's all a publicity stunt to lure the audience.

She then appeared in a number of films, some of which failed at the box office and some of which were successful.
